Last evening I had sat here drinking beer and editing yesterday's report. There was a tree stump where I perched for awhile, and watched motor traffic on the highway 12. I never saw any of the cyclists from the relay race. I went to bed and had weird dreams. I got up in the middle of the night to get a drink of water. It was cold out, and the stars were brilliant. I had a full view of the Milky Way. This summer, in Eureka Nevada, I had the pleasure to spend the night in a log cabin. It was historic, dilapidated, missing roof planks, and furnished with crumbling furniture and appliances. Last night at the Owl Club, after uploading my report, I ordered another tall mug of Kilt Lifter and one more cheeseburger and fries. Afterwards I rode uphill back through town to the city park, which I had scoped out earlier. It was listed on my map as a cyclist friendly campground. David and Eileen were camped not far away, and it was great to see three bicycles lined up together against a fence. Last night I showered and shaved, and returned myself to level one. I woke up with the morning light, and because it was Pacific time, noticed that it was still before 5AM. I tried to roll over and get some more sleep. That said, I needed to beat the sun and the wind out on the road. After packing up, I headed out on State Highway 487 west. I was surrounded by an expansive open valley with a large mountain range far to the west. I could see pockets of snow up on the ridge. I passed sage brush, grass, scraggly bushes, dirt, and rocks.
