My handle for this tour is Toothless Crank. I like to take loooooooong bicycle rides. The last three summers I've cycled across the USA, coast to coast. I had originally planned to pedal the ACA Great Divide route last summer, but COVID prevented it. The Canadian border is still closed which further postpones that tour. This summer I'll be hopping on a plane and beginning pedaling at the eastern base of the Rocky Mountains. I'll start at an elevation of 4,692' and will climb to 11,312' on my third day. The weather has finally turned nice here in Brooklyn, but in the high Rockies it's currently in the 30's. I still haven't finished editing my spring Southern Tier report, and yet here I go again. Blanka the dog is staying behind in Brooklyn, and I'll be traveling solo. David and Eileen were camped not far away, and it was great to see three bicycles lined up together against a fence. Last night I showered and shaved, and returned myself to level one. I woke up with the morning light, and because it was Pacific time, noticed that it was still before 5AM. I tried to roll over and get some more sleep. That said, I needed to beat the sun and the wind out on the road. After packing up, I headed out on State Highway 487 west. I showered, shaved, did laundry, and recharged all my devices. I was  well rested and solidly back at level one. For breakfast Belinda made fantastic scrambled eggs, along with toast, cut fruit, granola, yogurt, and coffee. Over breakfast I learned more about my hosts. Dave grew up in Monterey California, right on the coast, and has always been interested in boats, surfing, and diving. Belinda grew up in New Mexico, not far from this area.
